Western Bulldogs defender Bob Murphy wants an end to the calls for gay footballers to made public Knowledge, stating peoples' curiosity as somewhat sick.
While no AFL players have come out openly about their homosexuality, the 29-year-old Bulldog player suggested that he doubted the League or other players would be impacted by any such announcement.
In saying so though, he did reiterate the unhealthy curiosity from some of the public, stating "I think there's a bit of a sick fascination I hear from people on the street about who it is and how many there is," "I think that's really irrelevant.
"It's about an environment of accepting not just people who are gay, but from all walks of life and different outlooks on things.
"The culture of footy now is one that's very accepting. This club's one of great acceptance."
Murphy's reaction came in the wake of the announcement on the weekend from NRL Grand Final referree who announced publicly that he is gay.
What followed next was a quote from ex-Hawthorn president and former Premier Jeff Kennett stating that he thought up to five per cent of AFL players were gay, but afraid to say so publicly amid fears of different treatment from teammates and fans.
AFL Boss Andrew Demetriou made it clear though that is a non-issue for the AFL and that players' private lives were their business and it would stay that way.
