Morning all from Sunny Cusco, the gateway to the Inca Trail and former capital of the Inca Empire. Tomottow we head to the Sacred Valley before kicking off our 4 day trek to Machu Picchu. My preparation has been less than ideal with 2 bugs in the last week, but not to worry, all part of the experience.
I just got back from a 5 soles or $2 hair cut and have to say I am pretty happy with it. Aside from that, the last couple of days in Cusco have just been exploring the city, eating lightly and getting ourselves acclimatised to the high altitude and the thin air that comes with it. Aside from some slight sinus pain etc, so far so good for Kate and I.
Before I forget, during one of my sick bed days in Arequipa I was in bed asleep when an almighty tremor shook my bed, and in fact the whole room. I wasnt sure if I was dreaming, but I found out yesterday that there was actually an earth quake tremor in Arequipa that day. Daniel, I have to say, the vibration was worse than any of the mine blasts you feel at your place!
And while I`m on the by the ways, the Lonely Planets etc will tell you about the only annoying thing in Peru is the horns.... Well I can assure everyone they are spot on. The toot to see if you want a ride, they hoot to indicate or merge, they beep if you are crossing the road at a crossing, and they honk just becasue they can. It is amusing at first, but after a while can be slightly irritating. Still, if that`s all you can complain about, you`re going pretty welll.
Well, I will try and upload some recent pics ttoday, but if not, be good and speak to you in 5 days times. Wish me well, I am thinking I am going to need every bit of luck and ounce of energy I can find.. and my asthma puffer!
